The Ground Beneath Our Feet

Countermapping understudied histories and communities of New York City and the Hudson Valley.

Initiated on Pace University’s Lower Manhattan campus, the Ground Beneath Our Feet recognizes our location on unceded Lenape land near the African Burial Ground–at the convergence of Chinatown, Civic Center, Financial District, and the Seaport–and engages student participation and community collaboration in investigating the area’s previously obscured people, places, and events. On our Pleasantville campus, we are working to connect our campus to its neighboring environmental and cultural histories and communities in the Lower Hudson Valley.
